The Best Place to Live in

I think the best place to live in is Honolulu, Hawaii. After I spent two weeks in Honolulu, I became to love living there. First of all, the weather is perfect. It always warm all year around about 75F to 88F and mostly sunny so you don't have to wrap yourself up in many clothes in order to warm yourself up. And even if it rains, it would last for a few minutes, so it isn't going to bother you. Actually, once I was walking the street, suddenly it started raining so I really didn't know what to do because I didn't have any umbrella. But it didn't continue for longer than a few minutes and rained mildly. In addition, there are beaches everywhere in Honolulu. If you are awfully hot and drenched with sweat during the summer days, you can just take off your clothes and jump into the sea. Or if you get stressed out too much because of your work, study or personal relationship, you can just put aside the problems for a while and take time to straighten up your thoughts while swimming. Moreover, you can do every thrilling water sports like snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, and scuba diving. Especially, Honolulu is really famous as one of the best surf spots so you can do wind surfing or just watch skillful surfers. Also, the whole island is the perfect place to spend a vacation. Many people think Honolulu is just a vacation spot but, on the other hand, it means that the island knows for sure how to make you feel happy and special every day. Living in Honolulu seems like having a vacation every day. There are fantastic fireworks every week in the summer. The people are friendly and kind. Life is in Honolulu is very slow so you just can be laid back and relax. You can forget some problems which are bothering you. Nobody cares if you don't wear proper jacket or shoes. You can go everywhere in your thong. For these reasons, the best place to live in is Honolulu in my opinion. One day, if I have a chance, I really want to live there.

Eom Yuseong/The Best City/Wed 11am

Dynamic Busan

Busan is one of the best cities to live in. It is a historical port city. In the 1960s, Busan was the temporary capital of Korea and it is now called "No. 2 City in Korea". Most people are attracted to this city because it provides citizens with conveniences and constantly changing attractions. Even though Busan is such a big city, prices are relatively low. There are affordable housing, inexpensive restaurants and many traditional markets where it is customary to bargain. And people use public transportation at a reasonable price. Another benefit of Busan is that people can enjoy the sea all the time. Since Busan has many famous beaches, for example, Haeundae, Gwangalli, Songjeong and so on, it takes only 30 minutes at the most to reach and see the sea regardless of the place where people stand. Taking advantage of its location near the shorelines, there are many things related to the sea: an international port in Nampodong, the Jagalchi market with a variety of fresh fish, and a huge aquarium near Haeundae. After I graduate from HUFS and also complete my studies in Germany, I will definitely live in Busan. Certainly I am not sick and tired of this city thanks to its comfortable environment and the interesting nature.

Jung-Min / Brooklyn is the place / Introduction to English Writing(1), Wednesday 11a.m.

Brooklyn is the Place

People have different preferences when they choose a city in which they want to live in, but most have the opposite taste in their current inhabitance. According to social statistics, people who lived in big metropolis cities tend to live in a more quiet environment, whereas people who lived in the country side tend to live in big cities. I lived my entire life in big cities, but I always chose my hometown Brooklyn to be the best city that anybody could live in. First of all, Brooklyn has many diverse communities living together, which is actually an easy way to encounter and experience foriegn customs. Since the population is consisted of Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics, and Jewish people, rather than being mostly made up of Caucasians, there are many restaurants and shops that are related to their culture. Also, many people have this dream on wanting to live in New York, especially Manhattan, but because of the high price existing in the city, it is difficult for most of the population to live in this area. This is the point where I would recommend Brooklyn the place to live if you wanted to be residented in New York. Unlike Manhattan, Brooklyn has a more reasonable price range existing in the society which is similar to Seoul or most of the middle class cities in the U.S. If I had to be exact, the price range is almost one-third of Manhattan in Brooklyn. If you want to experience foreign customs and the NY'ers lifestyle while being residented in the same city, Brooklyn is the place to be.

The best city to live in, Gwacheon

I think the best city to live in is Gwacheon. Gwacheon has many advantages. Annually, the city of Gwacheon which is my hometown is chosen the 1st best city in Korea although this city is not familiar as Seoul for foreigners. My hometown also has a lot of government buildings which including the integrated Government Building and it is a major transportation between Seoul and Gyounggi province. It has a lot of political and economical advantages, and it is called 'the best city in Korea' because Gwacheon has many recreation sites. The first site is The Gwacheon/Seoul Grand Park. The Gwacheon/Seoul Grand Park is an absolutely one of the landmarks in Korea. Second, the Grand Park Zoo built the first zoo in Korea is located next to the Gwacheon/Seoul Grand Park. This zoo was built not in artificial site but in natural site. It has a lot of animal species. This place has attracted many visitors because it holds many festivals. Especially, in spring and autumn, our zoo has become a tourist attraction for family visitors. This place is also taken advantage of trail for citizen of Gwacheon. Lastly, Gwan-ak Mountain which is just 632m is located between Gwacheon city and Seoul. It is used to use for a lot of citizen's mountain trail because this mountain's altitude is not high and low. And this mountain is easy to access in all seasons and traffic situations because its entrance is located between two metro stations. As referred to earlier, many enjoyable places are in my hometown. Specially, because many places for families are located in Gwacheon, many families visit Gwacheon. Absolutely, a great many fantastic cities including Seoul and Busan where I live are in Korea for visiting, but Gwacheon is the best city for me forever.

Sehee Hwang/The Best Job For Me/Wed 11AM

I want to be a composer

The best job for people is the job that they can truly enjoy while doing it. For me, it would be the something related to the music such as a composer. This is the best job for me because I feel really happy when I play or listen to the music. I think people can become an expert by working on the field for long time. It is not easy to work on one thing for long time unless you really like doing it. If you truly enjoy it, you would not only work on it but also keep developing your ideas and make strong points that other people can hardly follow. So I think doing what I want to do is the best job for me. I have been playing the piano for almost 20 years. I don't play the piano to look cool or to show off. I just like it. No one has forced me to do it but I took lessons about making a song and how to play jazz piano well because it is what I enjoy the most and what I can do the best. These days, I stepped back a little bit from what I really want to do because I have works to do in my college. I am conflicting whether I should get a job in some company or work on what I want to do. Nevertheless, I am sure that the best job for me is the composer.

Dasom Yoo/best age for marriage/Wed34

Thirties, the Best Age to Get Married

People say that age thirty is also called Irip. It means that in that age you are ready to lay the foundation in the society and in your family. And I agree with that too. When you are in your twenties, you are a grown-up taking your first step toward the society. You are just a beginner in your college or at your work. You are very busy working just to take care yourself, and you are not yet ready to afford other people. But when you are in your thirties, you have experienced a lot and you become serious and more rational because you have failed few times in your past. And you know now what is better for you and do not longer do anything irresponsible. Also people over thirties normally have solid jobs that they are now used to, and are responsible for themselves and for other people than people who are younger. It means that you are ready and stable, and it is time for you to make your own family. These are the minimum conditions that people have to have before they get married to someone. And I think age thirty is the best age for marriage.

Joung Hwan Park / KOREAN EDUCATION SYSTEM / Wed 11am

The education system in Korea today consists of one university entrance exam, called Soo-neung, and students being accepted into universities depending on their exam scores. I believe the current education system is very ineffective in its way of making students focus only on achieving high scores in Soo-neung, and not allowing themselves to expose or be exposed to a diverse range of information during their times as students, which could benefit them in the future. I also think that the current education system turn its highest scorers into instant celebrities for getting into a decent university and meeting the expectations of the society that they live in. However, the so-called low performers or lowest scorers are made to face reality and the pressure that they receive from their parents, society and peers. The consequences of Sooneung's after effect include depression, and possibly suicide if the situation gets worse. In stating the problems of the current education system, I'd like make suggestions on some of the changes that could be implemented. First, the education system should provide an alternative career path for students, who don't wish to enter university, but acquire other skills and step into society earlier than others. This means that schools should take those students into consideration in accommodating their needs and operating a separate curriculum just for them. Second, the university entrance exam should be branched out in providing students with different types of exams depending on the courses they wish to apply in entering universities. In other words, exams should be changed to accommodate the special abilities that are required for a particular course, hence, have different marking criteria in terms of giving them a final score. Therefore, in stating the negative facet of the current education system, I strongly believe that changes should be implemented for the benefit of the students in the long run.

I want to live in Barcelona because this city has many beautiful architectures and great football club. In 19th century, Barcelona was called as the most artistic city in Europe. There are many gorgeous architectures that were built by Gaudi. He had excellent sense of color and creativity. His architectures has many elegant curves and they looks like the houses of fairy tale. Also Spain has warm weather and good environment to live. For example, the Soccer player who transferred from Barcelona to Manchester said, he misses Barcelona because there was very wonderful city to live. And the most important reason that I want to live in Barcelona is there is FC Barcelona. Since about 3 years ago, I was fascinated by their play and they have showed great performance in many matches. Their players have great technique and organizational power so their play has attraction and makes me surprise. I think this level of team is hard to see because this team color needs very high quality of technique and takes long time to complete. If I live in there, I could watch their games directly at the stadium and feel the passion of supporters. It would be the great joy for me.

College students, especially those who are about to get a job, they really worry about their studying and career. I also try to choosing my profession, so I considered some options. One of my options is Human Resource Director. So far, I think that HR director's work is the best for me because of these three reasons. First, HR directors are required to have a solid knowledge of their company. I believe that I have already learned through majoring business administration. It gives me a lot of information and knowledge to understand such as business structure and expected future outcome of companies. HR director is related to my first major so I can more understand about issues on companies. Second, HR directors should have an expert eye to be a judge of applicants. It might be very difficult to choose person to hire because hiring process is limited. So, it is essential to have an expert eye on identifying a person. I believe that a professional eye is formed by doing extracurricular activities like meeting many people and working with them. During these activities, I could acquire experiences from contact with others and a professional eye will be naturally formed in that process. Volunteering, participating in a club, or getting a part-time job will be a big help. Third, HR directors need to have teaching skills. HR directors have a responsibility to help new workers to adopt the organizational culture through training program. When it comes to teaching, I try to accumulate similar experiences. For example, I worked as an instructor at a private educational institute about two years in total. And when I was a sophomore, I took part in tutoring program as a tutor. I taught introduction of economics to my tutees. Being a HR director is quite challenging thing. However, I believe that it is the best option for me because I am being ready for this. I hope to be a HR director someday.

Eunbi Hwang / Suitable age for marriage / WED 11am

Deciding when to marry is totally one's personal sphere. However, I think getting married around 30 is the most optimal choice. Marriage means maturity and responsibility. We should be considerate of family members and adapt our own lifestyle with each other. It is said that those ability are accumulated through various experiences in society. In addition, people generally start to firm self identity in their late of 20's. It means that they can deal with realistic problems with their spouse. If a couple have a baby, responsibility becomes much greater. Also, sharing similar experience with friends is important. Especially if someone get married too early, he or she rarely have a freedom. One day, I saw a very young mothers who were same age for me. They talked about their marriage life and baby. At first, I thought that it would be hard for young couple to spend their time for themselves. For example, drinking until late night and having a trip with friends would be not easy. It seems that it could make them stressed. Finally, if a couple want to have a baby, becoming pregnant too late threatens baby and mother's body condition. Also, there is little communication between parents and children, in case generation gap is huge. So late marriage is not that good. To sum up, it seems wise to avoid excessively young or old age for marriage.

Young In, Lee/ The best city to live in/ Wed 11am

The best city to live in.

Where I want to live should have three things. First one is that I always can watch the sea with not high or big wave. I know that kind of cities. And I also have been there. There were Sydney Australia, Hong Kong China, and Qingdao China. Even I've been four or five abroad. I could not forget these cities. When I sat a bench and see the gentle wave sea, in front of me, I could feel very happy. So I really hope living these cities. And second is comfortable of living. It connected with everything, traffic and even convenience store's existence. But above cities that I wrote all have the best usability. So I cannot choose one. The last one is an atmosphere of the city. I like lazy air in the city. But it is so tough that the city have that mood. But the Hong Kong was different. Even I was there only one week. I knew that city's specialness. The people who I saw there looked really relaxed. It was 9a.m. in the morning, people walked to office and some people just got around. The Hong Kong has the calm seaside, convenience and leisurely air. So my best city to live in is the Hong Kong.

Changwon; the Best City to Live In

I believe that Changwon is a very good place to live in. In fact, I was born in Changwon and had lived 20 years in the city. Also, my family is still living in there. So, I really know well the benefits to live in Changwon. First of all, Changwon is a planned city. There is no traffic jam and industrial zone and residential area are clearly divided. Various discount stores, department stores, theaters, restaurants and concert halls are close together. This means once you go out, you can get to almost every cultural facility and enjoy your free time conveniently. Second, there are many beautiful parks, even though Changwon is very big city. As I mentioned earlier, Changwon is well-organized city. If you stay in residential area, you would find a lot of parks such as park with all kinds of rose, park with a lake, and park for exercising. You will be able to enjoy picnic with family and friends and take a fresh air in the heart of downtown. Finally, Changwon won the second prize at the International Awards for Liveable communities 2010 which is a contest that selects the best city to live in by UNEP (the United Nations Environment Program). Therefore, I think Changwon is the best city to live in.

Ann Arbor

201101227 Min Ho Jung

Ann Arbor was the place I spent my childhood, and the place with one of the best memories. I can say with confidence that it is one of the best cities to live in. The word cozy describes Ann Arbor perfectly. It is not your typical city with busy people, tall skyscrapers and gray cement, where you feel loneliness and coldness. In Ann Arbor, you feel warmth. First of all, the people and nature blend in well. There are hills and vast fields of grass with people having a picnic and children playing by the stream. During Winter, there are thick layers of snow and you can see children having snow fights and riding sleds down the hill. This is one of the things I loved most about Ann Arbor. In addition, all the things necessary for a living are all nearby. Although Ann Arbor may not be a big city like Los Angeles, it has all the department stores, super markets, and places that people look for. Lastly, the people are friendly. Since Ann Arbor is a small city, people develop close relationships. For instance, when I lived there, I developed a very special relationship with a librarian. She was pretty old and had grandchildren of her own, but treated me as if I was another grandchild of hers. She would give me the latest updates on books, and invite me to her home for a sandwich or a chat. She was one of the reasons I have such good memories of Ann Arbor. It's been more than 8 years since I left Ann Arbor, but it still remains in my heart.

Jung-Min / My University Professor/ Introduction to English Writing(1), Wednesday 11a.m.

We met a lot of teachers in our lives, whether from middle, high school, or even college. There were teachers who had great work ethics when teaching their students making them more ehthusiastic about studying, while there were also others who were too lazy even coming to class on time. One of the professors I met in my university, who's name was professor Yi, helped me to have a more broader view point when looking at the society. Since my major is Public Administration, the courses I take talk mostly about current events happening in the society, and I have a lots of chances in getting to know them. The problem was that most of the professors in my major teach the students directly, in other words the teachers do most of the talking while the students just listen. On the other hand, professor Yi was a teacher from the U.S. and unlike most typical Korean professors who lectures out the whole course, he let's the students talk and parcipate at most of the time. Because of this, when taling about current events, all the students participated and talked about how they viewed the issues and its outcomes. Since I was albe to hear more information and considering the thoughts from others, I was able to have a broader view point when looking at the society, thanks to professor Yi's teaching method. To this day, I still take his courses, and I always thank him for teaching me the valuable lesson on becoming more open-minded and having broader viewpoints when looking at the society.

Ka-yeong Kim / My Friend, My Teacher / Wed11am

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. In my perspective, everyone can be a teacher, because we reflect ourselves by exploring others. There are many teachers who can be instructive, doing step by step as a book says. It can be helpful at sometimes, but I prefer to learn by practicing actually. In that case, working with teammates helps a lot. It's the best situation that you can learn from others and affect them at the same time. I realized everyone deals with works in their own way, even we don't know. When I have a meeting for processing the conference, there were 15 people who facilitated and 2 more people who managed the whole conference. It was too big group to communicate each other and we need to find an effective way to adjust all things. –asking outline of sessions, feedbacks and rehearsals. We need to show our self management skill. Timeline for each one is quite different, so we had to manage that with fresh mind. At that time, I couldn't manage well because I couldn't memorize all the things. One of my teammate, She was a great teach for me then. She gave instructions to fill out the schedule note and keep looking that. Moreover she checked me periodically, confirming whether I use that or not. From then, I use schedule note and become good time-keeper. I'd like to express my thanks to her for making me today as well.

Young In, Lee / the worst teacher / wed 11am

The worst teacher.

I met the worst teacher in high school, " The sweet potato", it was a nickname of my teacher. When I was 1st grade in high school, he was a teacher in charge of me. The origin of the nick name, sweet potato, was his face. His red face looked like sweet potato's peel. Also he's law height made him to look like a sweet potato. More over his class was really boring. So he always had to check around all over the class. That was so many students sleep or doing other thing. What the worst was, he was tormented by students. By stories from senior, one day he entered the warehouse in the physical rom, then suddenly students locked that door so he could not get out. And sometime I looked he was struck by students. In my case, once we was in the school trip in Jeju-islands, someone pulled up a wastebasket in the bus. He urged us to clean that trash, but nobody followed his order. From these cases and boring class time, I remember him as the worst teacher ever I met before.

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some are good and some are bad. One teacher I really liked is her who was the homeroom teacher when I was a senior in the middle school. At the time, I was kind of troublemaker who habitually come late for school. She tried to deal with that talking to me how I could improve my life without being late. She taught us well and helped us learn other things too. As a senior, we had to decide high schools we were going to enter. I, personally, was not really into those kinds of things. My teacher, however, suggested me to go to a special-purpose high school for foreign language, as I was better at it than others. The suggestion made my life even better or made significant difference on my entire life. I am glad she was my teacher.

Truly good teacher

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some are good and some are bad. Good teachers are who teach students well or be very kind to them and care a lot. On the other hand, bad teachers don't care about their students and act mean to them. And one teacher I really liked fulfilled all the factors to be a good teacher. She was my home room teacher of my second grade of high school. She was teaching Korean geography subject, and she taught us really well and furthermore helped us a lot about our worries as a high school student, such as studying problems or concerns about entering university. But moreover, the bigger reason I like her is that she really cared us a lot. At every last day of a month she prepared birthday gifts for the students whose birthday was on that month. She not only prepared presents but also wrote birthday cards for each of us. She understands our characteristics and wrote about it. For me she wrote "I'm happy to see you having good time playing soccer and hanging with your friends. Maybe that's why you always doze at supplementary lessons!" It made me smile bashfully, and at the same time I was grateful to her for caring even my habits. Actually she is chic and quite strict at ordinary times, but I never thought her as a cold-hearted teacher and rather felt warm and relieved. I really admire her and glad she was my teacher.

Joung Hwan Park / My middle school homeroom teacher / Wed 11am

There are many great teachers who are popular among their students, hence, still remembered even though many years have gone by. I believe a lot of aspects are necessary in being a good teacher, where some of those could include knowledge, humor, appearance, personality, and so on. My homeroom teacher back in middle school, Mrs. Musarra, was one of the best teachers that I've ever had. Since it was an all boys school, her appearance was the first thing that caught my and the other students' attention. She had brown eyes, brunette hair, and a really nice smile, which always worked well on students. However, her appearance wasn't all that made her a good teacher, but it was also her way of talking and dealing with students that made her stand out among the other teachers. Whenever there was a problem with a student, she would have a one-on-one conversation with the student, where she gave him a chance to explain the situation and then she would suggest some ways to fix the problem without getting angry. This personal quality of hers made us students become aware that she actually tried to understand us as a person, rather than other teachers who just pin pointed the problem and scolded us, which made us feel distanced from them. This is not to say that her way of teaching wasn't that good, but I'm just trying to emphasize that these personal qualities of hers, combined with her good teaching skills, made her a good teacher who I'll remember for the rest of my life.

My Great Homeroom Teacher

I had a great teacher when I was 3rd grade in high school. He was my homeroom teacher. Most of my classmates really liked him because he was very dedicating and caring teacher. For example, he bought cakes, bananas, sodas and snacks every month to celebrate the students' birthday. He didn't go home until the last student went home. After Sooneung, he planned to go on a trip with everyone in the class. We actually went on a trip to Jebudo before the graduation and he gave little CDs to each one of us. In the CD, there was a video he took during the whole semester and farewells to each one in the class. It was very touching. In my case, he gave me a ride everyday because I was living near his house. He was supposed to go to school until 8AM but he arrived one or two hours earlier to give me a ride. Plus, when I changed my mind to take social studies class rather than science class, he let me do it even if it was very rare case and almost impossible. He was a great teacher to everyone in my class. I still keep in touch with him and try to visit him on Teacher's Day. I will keep doing it to thank him about all those things he had done to me and my classmates.

My best teacher

When somebody ask me who is your best teacher of your life, I would answer without any hesitation. My best teacher is Ms. Kim who was my second grade class teacher in middle school. She had nice appearence. She seemed to enjoy her life and looked noble and vivid. She was one of Chinese character teachers of my middle school. She had taught me for 2 years. When I was first grade, frankly speaking, I was scared of her because of her priggish side. She always perfect with her jobs and worked very hard. She tried to understand our opinion and thought with students' viewpoint. And, Compared with other old teachers, she was so young. It has been 12 years since I graduated from middle school. I really want to see her. Tonight, I remember her.

My Favorite Teacher

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Unfortunately, every teacher doesn't give you a valuable lesson. Some are good and some are bad. And frankly speaking, it is hard to find good teachers, and not everyone gets a chance to meet a teacher who inspires and leads you to be a better person. There is one teacher I really like. He is a journalism professor and I am taking one of his classes this semester. It was last semester when I first met him. Before the class started, my friends scared me that he was strict and gave a ridiculously large amount of assignments. I really wanted to drop his class but I decided to accept the challenge. At the very first class, he looked strict and touch like my friends' saying. He gave us an assignment and explained about what kind of subject he would teach for the rest of the semester for 3 hours even though it was the first class. Therefore, I can't tell his first impression was really good. However, I had to admit I was wrong. It turned out he was the best teacher. He taught us well and helped us learn not only journalism but also other things too. Until I met him, I had never thought that journalism was fun and interesting subject. In the most of journalism classes, I learned only about the history of journalism and how to write articles. Eventually, I lost my interest in studying journalism. I didn't care about politics or journalism and thought all sorts of things were just boring. But now, I could never love it more. He puts journalism, which is really difficult subject to me, in simple terms. We have discussed journalism in a practical way at various times. He gives me a new perspective on journalism and the world where I live. Moreover, He is nice and cares about all of us. For example, he tries to catch up with us during the break time. And he likes to talk with us and listen to our opinions attentively. I feel he treats us with respect because he uses the honorific form of language during the class. I can't tell his class is full of wit and humor but I feel I really learn something. I think I am turning into a better person. I am glad he is my teacher.

My English Teacher- MR. Sunny

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some are good and some are bad. One teacher I really liked is my English teacher I met at Institute when I was 15 years old. We called him Sunny Sam –sam is short for teacher in Korean-because his name was Sunhee and the pronunciation was similar to sunny. The one reason why I liked him so much is that he was always cheerful and fun to be around. He gave all of his students their nicknames and that made us laugh and feel closer. He called me a plump since I had chubby cheek and called one of my friend antennae because she had two spots in her forehead look like feelers that insects have. The other reason is that he was the best English teacher I ever had. He had his way of teaching English, especially he taught us how to memorize vocabulary easily. He made a sentence with the meanings of the word that makes sense. For example, he told us to memorize the meaning of the word 'stable' as "There is a stable stable." You know that 'stable' means steady and safe or means a place where horses stay. This made us remember meanings easily and longer. Thanks to him, I memorized many words without difficulty and still remember the meaning as he taught me.

My Best Teacher

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some are good and some are bad. One teacher I really liked. He was my homeroom teacher when I was on the first grade of my high school. He taught PE and he actually was a judo player. You can see how much strict and scary he was. He was harsh on every student including me. But he helped me developing myself. All the students were assigned their classes by their middle school grade. Honestly my middle school grade was really poor. About 520 students entered my high school with me and my grade fell behind even the half. The first day I entered my high school, we had a test to classify students for class by achievement level. It was math and English test. Surprisingly I got the first. Every student noticed at me. Some students that knew about me thought that I cheated, but most of the students didn't know at all about me so they thought I was a top student. I was proud of myself. My homeroom teacher believed me but he didn't compliment me. Instead he said that it was not my genuine grade so I should not be proud of myself. He said that I should study harder to meet other students' heightened expectations. But I failed. I got really poor grade at the first mock test. My teacher exposed my grade at the end of class to every kid in my class. I felt ashamed and humiliated. I felt extremely hatred on him for a moment. Many students started to backstab that I cheated at the last test. Few days later my teacher told me the reason why he disclosed my results to every student in my class. He thought that I can do much better but I didn't believed myself and stopped trying. I was ashamed at the fact that I felt pride and settled for the last test result even though that wasn't my real ability. After that day I tried my best to come up to my teacher's expectation. I never got the first place again. However I really studied hard and that effort showed at my grade. I think this was thanks to my teacher's belief on me. This is why Mr. Kyung is the best teacher to me.

Good Teachers in My Life

I have met a lot of teachers since I was 8 years old. There have been various teachers whether they were nice or not. I have four nice and unforgettable teachers. I met one of them when I was 12 years old. She was always cheerful and active. Besides, she didn't hesitate to talk together with young students and listened carefully to our trivial opinions. After listening to us, she would give a practical advice. She treated students as not small children who do not know the world but a human with emotion, always saying that "You can be anything you want and your future will be brilliant and infinite as long as you put all your efforts on achieving it". So I still remember her voice, face, and her name. Second good teacher I miss is a Korean historic teacher in middle school. She was really good at explaining history and helps students to understand the difficult and enormous subject easily. When she explained war or negative events, her face looked so sad and was filled with anger. Also when she said about great achievements of our ancestor, her facial expression and voice would show everything that she wanted to say like excitement and happiness. I think I have loved the subject of history since then and I really appreciate her.

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some teachers are good and some are bad. Just giving many knowledge well to student is not the most necessary condition of good teacher. Good teacher is a person who can change students' vision to right way. Also good teacher is who can be the right model for students. When I was in the middle school, I really liked writing teacher. When I first met him, I thought he looks so keen. He was very eagle-eyed and his hair looks stiff. Also he has angulate facial form so I thought he might be very sharp and strick person. My first impression of him was half-right and half-wrong. He has very keen insight about phenomenons but never strick. On the contrary to this, he made an effort to us think freely. For example, he never said "that's wrong" to our opinion. He accepted our every opinion and think about many point of views. Also he told us "don't blame other's opinions. every opinions have a value to consider of." He taught us well and helped us learn other things too. He taught us about attitude of our life. For example, When I had hard time and be concerned about many problems, I told my worries to him. He listened my stories carefully and gave me the energy to restart my works again. I am glad he was my teacher.

We meet a lot of teachers in our life. Some are good and some are bad. Fortunately, I met good teachers in my school years. One of good teachers I met was my high school physical education teacher. I met him when I was 17, and he was also my homeroom teacher. Unlike other teachers, he didn't know a lot about college enterance examination because he taught PE class. However, he did know how to encourage and communicate with his students.
For example, when I went into a slump, he tried to talk to me first and asked me what my current problem is,such as a relationship with friends or deciding career. And then, after listening all the stories, he gave me a piece of advice to get out of the slump. At that time , I realized encouraging students and giving a proper advice on their future are the properties of a good teacher. I am glad he was my teacher.

          My homeroom teacher

We have met some talented teachers who successfully communicate their knowledge and make us concentrate well on the lecture. Even they arouse student's interest on the subject. Thanks to them, I also managed to studying Korean history and geography which were really torture for me.

However, above all, a homeroom teacher in the third year of highschool gave the most valuable experience because he helped me manage hard time by communicating and sympathizing with me. My homeroom teacher was calm, spoke softly and resembled a sloth from the movie Ice Age. His warm personality was like my uncle, so it was really comfortable to talk to him. I sometimes made fun of him such as spreading cream of cake on his face on Teacher's day.

I always felt I got left behind my smart friends because I could not get grades as high as I wanted. One day, when he counseled my grades, the wretched reality make me cry in front of him. He encouraged me, saying "You will success if you do your best. Even though if you do not reach a goal, the hardship would make you stronger. Above all, your attractive personality will be helpful in the long run. I trust on you." I was moved by his words, promising myself that I will spend my time preciously and someday achieve my goal. Thank you my teacher, you are so dear to me.

People might say a good teacher is someone who teaches well. For me, the best teacher was the one who guided me through one of the most difficult times in my life. He was my homeroom teacher when I was in middle school 3rd grade. His nickname among students was "Mad Bear". He certainly looked like a bear: tall with a big face and well known for his toughness. He always carried around a wooden stick that he used to quiet the class or punish the students. When you read my description about him up until now, you may think he was one of those teachers that everyone feared and hated. One the contrary, he was well liked by the students and considered as one of the best teachers in our school. I was lucky that he was there to help me walk along the lines and not give up on myself. When I felt the urge to get out of line and give up, he was there to guide me back. At first, I didn't trust him. However, as time went on I could see that he really loved the students and cared more than any teacher I have met. I could consult him whenever I had a problem and he was my safety net. When graduation day came, I felt the squeeze in my stomach that I get when I feel empty and got choked up. He gave me his usual warnings about behaving and then gave me a warm hug and a smile. I've seen him several times after that day, but lost touch with him since I graduated high school. I think it's time for me to go see him and catch up.

Birthday Present for My Girlfriend

Last year, I bought running shoes for my girlfriend's birthday present. It was very successful because it was what she really wanted to have and it didn't cost me that much. First, about 3 weeks before her birthday, I listen carefully to what she says about what she needs to buy. When shopping, without realizing, she says about things she needs. I capture her speech and try to memorize it. In my case, it was running shoes. She said her running shoes were too old so she needed to buy new ones. After that, I google or ask my friends about the price and design of the running shoes. Then I make a list of particular models and pretend that I need to buy new shoes. I look around the shoe stores with her. I pick up different colors and design of shoes which was on the list and ask her if it looks nice on me. I could figure out which color and design she preferred during this process. Finally, I could buy the right shoes which was closest to her preference and both of us were very happy about it. I know these steps are not that easy to follow but if you really want to give something special to the people you love and make them pleased, this effort is affordable.

Jung-Min / Steps to buying a gift / Introduction to English Writing(1), Wednesday 11a.m.

Making a decision is always a challenging task we encounter as we live on our lives, so goes for deciding on a gift as well. When considering a gift, people always ponder about whether the person they are going to give the gift to, will like it or not. In order to unburden the pressure of those feelings, I will inform you of a few steps that can help you when deciding a gift. First of all, you should regard the taste of the person you are going to present the gift, because everybody has their own style which they like and dislike. For example, when guys give gifts to their girlfriends, they tend to give them accessories like earrings or necklaces, but the problem is every girl has their own taste and not all accessories look the same, there are cute, shiny, modern, simple, expensive ones, and many more. It is important to figure out the taste of the person you are going to give the gift to so the person who receives the gift will be satisfied with it. After you figured out the taste, the next step would be to measure the price of the gift. It doesn't have to be very expensive, but another important factor would be figuring out your relationship with the person you are going to present the gift. This means that the more special that person is to you, the more considerate you should be about their gifts. Although I said that the gift doesn't need to be very expensive, if the conditions are held upon giving the gift to someone "very" special, it would be easier to find a gift which is expensive because usually quality and price are closely related. Even though some people say "it's the thought that counts", it would be better to consider their tastes and the price of the gift regarded to your relationship with that person. They would be more happier if they got something they would like, rather then a gift which is unsatisfying, later on returning it for cash.

How to Choose a Gift

Some of you should have this kind of experience: You gave someone a gift and he or she smiled after hesitating for 3 seconds. Then an awkward atmosphere followed. This inconvenient situation can be avoided if you follow certain steps. First, become an observer. Look at someone carefully that you want to give a present. All you need is, not a keen power of observation but some time to find out what he or she likes, wants, or needs. You are able to catch it even in a small talk. Next, according to an observation, make a gift list. It is easy to see when you draw a table. Divide the table into 2 categories: "need" and "like/want", respectively for the things that are urgently necessary and for what they crave for. It is also good when you can include what is helpful for refining their interests or habits. Then, search for the price of each present. Those who do not earn money or have enough money cannot afford an expensive, brand-new car like Audi. The best way is to buy a present within each one's budget. After you narrow down your range of gifts, choose one that you think most impressive. It can be such a practical one or a DIY present. Even you may write a letter. When your special people are moved to tears with runny nose as soon as you hand your gift to them, you will be also happy to watch their wonderful reactions.

Choosing a gift

- get more information

Choosing a special gift makes my heart flutter. Under the pressure that selecting wonderful one, I sometimes feel uncomfortable. 'Wonderful gift' means not wonderful 'stuff', but a gift which expresses the sincerity and love of givers. These days I am considering birthday present of my sincere friend. Now let's look at some steps with my case. First, give attention receiver's interest and preference. Ask them what they need or find it out by having time together and observing their daily life. If they do not need special thing, I recommend buying 'the more the better' stuff such as accessories, underwears and watches. In my case, I noticed that my friend's backpack was old. So I decided to buy a new one. Next, think of style and get information about a gift. Using internet is really helpful. You will be aware of new brands and whether the item is on sale or not. At first, I did not know about a man's backpack, but internet gave me some know-how. Finally, see the item for yourself and buy it. In case of internet shopping, read product's review carefully. The present will make someone you love happy because your effort is reflected in it.

Joung Hwan Park / GIFT FOR MUM AND DAD / Wed 11am

I've always had a hard time choosing a gift for my parents on their anniversary or birthdays, but if you think simple and pay a little attention to them, then choosing a gift will soon become a piece of cake. First, think of something that they would need. If you've been paying attention to them around the house you'd be able to come up with a few things that they would need, or are running out of. It doesn't have to be anything expensive because it would be a waste of money if it's just costly and of no use. When I was trying to choose a gift for my parents on their anniversary last year, I realized they didn't have a proper pair of running shoes for exercising. Hence, I bought a nice pair of matching running shoes on their anniversary, which they liked very much and go jogging every now and then. Second, if you don't know what they need, then go for something practical. By practical, I mean a gift that isn't just a one-off thing and something that can be of use to them regardless of if it's needed or not. Some examples could include cinema or department store vouchers, books for reading, clothing, or even just taking them out to a nice meal and spending some valuable time. Just recently on Parents' Day, my parents visited me from Suwon, and we spent time eating and catching up on things since I lived by myself near campus. When they were leaving for Suwon, I walked with them to the station and, for the first time in my life, I gave them a certain amount of money for them to spend it on whatever they needed. Since there wasn't anything that they needed at that time, I thought this would be a more practical gift. I felt really good when my mum told me that they ended up having a medical check-up and buying some medication for the two of them with the money. For any gift, it's important to always put quality before quantity, but if money isn't the issue, then you should put necessity before practical.

Hyung-Il Kim / buying a special gift / wed 11a.m.

several steps for buying a special gift

When we buy a gift for someone special, we should consider about what he or she needs or wants first. However you give valuable presents, if he or she don't need them or don't like them, the effect of presents would be reduced. For example, high-price soccer shoes are useless for baseball fan and rare flowers wouldn't make feel happy the man who is dull. So when we choose a gift for special someone, consider of hobby or taste about that person and think about the person's needs or wants.

Secondly, we have to choose proper price range of the gift. Although we chose great gift, if the price is too high, we don't have enough money to buy it. And too high-price gift can make uncomfortable the person who receive it. So when you choose the gift, find several similar items you want to buy as a gift and then choose the item that has proper price.

Third, when you choose a gift, buying practical item is better then just esthetic things. When I was young, I usually buy flowers as a gift. However, I became know that people prefer practical items that they can use to just beautiful things that only can see. Also if you give practical item, the receiver would recall you when he or she use that. But esthetic items more easily forgotten.

In conclusion, when you choose special gift for someone, you should take care of the receiver's needs and wants, the price of the gift and whether the gift is practical or not. If you carefully consider these things and give the gift for special someone, it evidently make he or she happy and satisfied.

Steps Of Preparing A Gift For Your Friend

It is always difficult to find a right present for your loving friends. You want to give something that they need or things that make them happy when they receive them. So here are some steps that are quite helpful when getting a gift for your friend. Let's pretend the receiver is female and you are looking for her birthday present.

First, you have to pay a close attention to your friend few days before her birthday. She might give you a hint like when you are with her reading magazines or shopping together. For example, my friend just got her ears pierced and she was so excited in getting new earrings, so I knew that she was interested in earrings. Next, until you buy a gift for her you have to make sure that she does not have the same one that you are going to get for her. If you do not know, you can ask her without her noticing that you are preparing it for her. Then, go to a mall or a shop and choose the right one. Picture her with the present that you are going to give her. If you like that picture, then buy it. Finally, pack it well and give it to your friend with a card saying "Happy Birthday!"

It may take some time and your effort to find the right gift for your friends. But, somehow, it feels really good and you might feel proud when you get the right one for your friends. So why don't you take some time to think when choosing a present?

Make your gift special

Sometimes people have a hard time choosing appropriate gift for special person. That is a common problem because a receiver of gift has his or her own taste. Selecting a perfect gift is really hard, but choosing a good and special gift is easier. You can make yours a special gift by following these steps. First, check what he or she needs now. This step is very important because an immediate need easily satisfy your special person. Anything is good. If the receiver needs a purse, then buy it. That would be the best choice you make. Second, Check price range. Make it affordable to both you and the receiver. It is a good try to decide your range in advance. A gift without great burden can make greater happiness for both the giver and receiver. Next, Consider receiver's style and taste. That is the hardest part ever; because identifying his or her taste is quite hard. But, you can investigate it by asking his or her surroundings or asking directly. For example, you can ask "Which is your favorite, blue or red?" The more you gather information the easier you pick out. Finally, think about effective way to deliver your gift. For instance, with a card, your gift will move more your special person. Also, wrapped gifts make the receiver curious, and show your sincerity. Choosing a good gift is demanding, but your sensible choice makes your gift meaningful. And the important thing is this: definitely, your gift will make your special person really happy.

How do you choose a speacial gift for someone you love?

There is a situation or season that you have to give some special present to, for example, like a girlfriend, friends, and parents. In these situations, you may worry about what to choose. At that time, the way that you choose a present is not easy. But, take it easy. First, before you go to the gift shop, make sure that those who will receive a gift from you are interested in what you will give. Or think of what he or she needs. And list what you think is given to him or her. Then, you can go to the gift shop. In another way, a souvenir of treveling is also wonderful. Because you buy the souvenir only for him or her, they are moved by the present. Finally, these things are very easy but you need to remember it. Although the gift are cheap or humble, if it comes from your heart, that is no problem.

Know and remember

Giving a special gift to someone you love is very effective and important to make the relationship with them stronger. However, it is quite important to choose the right gift for giving them. Because if you give them an inappropriate or needless gift, it can rather make them upset feeling that you are not interested in them. So to choose an appropriate gift that the receiver would appreciate it, you need to consider carefully. First, you need to think about your exact relationship with the receiver, whether him or she is your family member, friend, boyfriend or girlfriend. And moreover you have to think how long you have been making the relationship or your present relationship situation with the receiver before buying a gift. Another thing you have to consider choosing a gift, and maybe the most important thing, is to know the receiver's preference. You can ask them directly or find out through other people who know well about the receiver. Also try to remember what the receiver said instantly at the past, such as "I would like to have something like that some day." If you can remember things that pleasure the receiver and give them as a gift, it would be the most touching gift for them.

How to Buy Special Gifts For Friends

Usually, I don't follow any certain steps to buy a gift for my friends but I have to admit that it is much easier to follow steps and I want to introduce how I bought gifts for my friend. First, you have to think what your friend needs. I wanted to buy gifts for my friend who studied in U.S. When I call her, she always talks about the things she wants to do here and the food she wants to eat, and a lot of stuffs she needs but she can't buy there. Then, I decided to buy something for her that she can never find anywhere in U.S. like cosmetics made in Korea. And another reason for buying gifts for her is to surprise her. She lives alone in the country which is far, far from her sweet home. I'm sure she misses her country, family, and friends. So I wanted to send her something that could remind of her home. Second, you should check your budget. If you want to buy something which costs an arm and a leg for your friend but your budget is not that big, you should seek compromise. Therefore, you should have how much money you can spend in mind. Then, choose a present. This is the most important step definitely. Go to store and choose a gift that you want to buy for your friend. It is helpful to take someone with you, because he or she will give you an advice. Since it is cheap and convenient to shop online, you can go online to buy gifts. But I recommend you to check the gift offline before you buy it online. Finally, wrap the gift nicely. It is important because the first thing that your friend will see is not the gift but a sort of box which contains it. Do not wrap the gift with newspapers or just put it in a black, plastic bag. Unfortunately, I had to send my gift abroad so I couldn't decorate my gift box. However, if you can, make your gift box all pretty so your friend will wonder what kind of surprise in it. Through these steps, I bought nice gifts for my friend and she was really happy at my gifts. Later, I will use these steps again some other time I should buy a special gift for my friend.

How to Choose a Gift for Special Person

201001006 DIS

Hyejin Kim

Preparing special gift for your beloved person is very important, because it makes you maintain close relationship with the person and sometimes plays crucial role in repairing the relationship. There are many special anniversaries including birthday, wedding anniversaries, valentine day and Christmas. By giving special gift to your beloved one, you will be able to make the day more memorable and unforgettable in your life. In addition, it will help your special person to think that you are really nice and considerate one. If you want to make your gift unforgettable one, first, consider the characteristics and age of your target. For example, if she or he were non-smoker, giving a fancy lighter would be valueless, even though the lighter is very expensive. Second, wrap the gift from the heart. If you prepared a fantastic and meaningful one, wrap it appropriately. Although your present is not good enough and less expensive one, beautiful wrapping helps to move the heart of your special person and make your gift lovely. Finally, write a card with your own hand. There is nothing special than a sentence with your sincere heart and gratitude. The card makes it possible to express hidden feelings and helps your special one to understand you. All these steps will make your anniversaries more meaningful memory with a lovely gift.
