Jung-Min / Steps to buying a gift / Introduction to English Writing(1), Wednesday 11a.m.

Making a decision is always a challenging task we encounter as we live on our lives, so goes for deciding on a gift as well. When considering a gift, people always ponder about whether the person they are going to give the gift to, will like it or not. In order to unburden the pressure of those feelings, I will inform you of a few steps that can help you when deciding a gift. First of all, you should regard the taste of the person you are going to present the gift, because everybody has their own style which they like and dislike. For example, when guys give gifts to their girlfriends, they tend to give them accessories like earrings or necklaces, but the problem is every girl has their own taste and not all accessories look the same, there are cute, shiny, modern, simple, expensive ones, and many more. It is important to figure out the taste of the person you are going to give the gift to so the person who receives the gift will be satisfied with it. After you figured out the taste, the next step would be to measure the price of the gift. It doesn't have to be very expensive, but another important factor would be figuring out your relationship with the person you are going to present the gift. This means that the more special that person is to you, the more considerate you should be about their gifts. Although I said that the gift doesn't need to be very expensive, if the conditions are held upon giving the gift to someone "very" special, it would be easier to find a gift which is expensive because usually quality and price are closely related. Even though some people say "it's the thought that counts", it would be better to consider their tastes and the price of the gift regarded to your relationship with that person. They would be more happier if they got something they would like, rather then a gift which is unsatisfying, later on returning it for cash.

  1. What I like in your writing is the example of first step. You described the situation really specificallly to help the readers understand the situation, I think. However, you support this example with more information. What I mean is your writing will be improved if you add some tips to know the taste of special person. Regarding the taste of someone is quite difficult if I am not very close person to him or her. As you mentioned specific tastes such as cute, modern, simple and so on, I hope you to share your tips to figure out someone's taste.

  2. Your writing clearly shows what you are going to write which is steps of helping you to decide a gift. You used time orders like First of all and After, and they separated the steps. Also you used example, and background information to show more details, so it was easy to understand the progress. One thing i wish that could help you is what about using "thoughtfulness" instead of "thought". You are meaning to say 'something from the heart' is what it matters.

From my experience, once I had a friends birthday coming up, and I decided to buy her a perfume, but as we all know there are tons of perfumes and I didn't know which one to pick. Fortunately, I remembered she liked the color pink, and also had this passion for sweet food and their scent, so I decided to buy her a pink colored perfume with a sweet scent, and surprisingly she loved it. As you can see from my experience, it is important to figure out the taste of the person you are going to give the gift to so the person who receives the gift will be satisfied with it and also it will be easier to pick the type of the gift. After you figured out the taste, the next step would be to measure the price of the gift.
