Joung Hwan Park / Music / Wed 11am

I enjoy music very much. As I mentioned in my previous writing, I like playing the acoustic guitar, but I really love listening to music. Although I listen to acoustic music the most, I wouldn't say it's my favorite. I actually don't have a favorite genre of music because I think different kinds of music have their own characteristics in which make people listen to them. For example, when I was in middle school, I used to listen to hip hop/rap music due to their loud beats and rhyming lyrics. At a fairly young age, I thought artists such as Eminem, 2 Pac, 50 Cent, etc looked cool, which was another reason for my interest in hip hop/rap music. I was part of my church's praise and worship team during high school and this influenced my taste in music in changing from hip hop/rap to contemporary Christian music (CCM). Since our team played and sang at church, I had to listen to various CCM songs for reference, and to become familiar with the actual style and organization of CCM music. After coming to university, I joined a band and this allowed me to learn and be exposed to pop, acoustic music, and the different styles within rock music such as punk, metal, alternative, britpop, grunge, indie, etc. Hence, nowadays, I listen to a mixture of those genres mentioned above from the multi-genre music collection on my laptop. I also have different styles of music that I listen to for different situations. For example, I play hip hop/rap, dance, house, or other music of fast beat and tempo when I'm getting ready to go out, whereas I listen to R&B, jazz or acoustic music when I want to relax or go to bed. In looking at the different types of music for the different periods of my life, I can say with confidence that music has had and will have a great influence in my life.

  1. As I read your previous writing, I can easily understand this paragraph. You're really interested in various music. In this writing, you seems to show your history of music tastes. I think the flow that connect your life stroy and music genre is really interesting and good. But..you'd better add some explanation to the last sentence that "music has had and will have great influence in my life". I understand that you have listened to a variety of music and it is really important part of you. However, it needs more supporting sentences. I also enjoy listening many music including pop, J-pop, K-pop and new-age music and I cannot live without my I-pod. But I don't think the music had not changed myself. I believe you have some special reasons to say that music had great influence on your life. Sorry for long explanation due to my poor English./ Another thing! you commented to my writng that you're interested in volunteering work that I preparing. 2. "Music" (2nd draft)

I enjoy music very much. As I mentioned in my previous writing, I like playing the acoustic guitar, but I really love listening to music. Although I listen to acoustic music the most, I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite. I actually don’t have a favorite genre of music because I think different kinds of music have their own characteristics in which make people listen to them. I was part of my church’s praise and worship team during high school and this influenced my taste in music in changing from hip hop/rap to contemporary Christian music (CCM). Since our team played and sang at church, I had to listen to various CCM songs for reference, and to become familiar with the actual style and organization of CCM music. The influence of CCM music helped me focus on and strengthen my faith as a Christian. After coming to university, I joined a band and this allowed me to learn and be exposed to pop, acoustic music, and the different styles within rock music such as punk, metal, alternative, britpop, grunge, indie, etc. This allowed me to have a new insight on acoustic music, where I ended up literally falling in love with acoustic music and ended up purchasing an expensive acoustic guitar just last year. Hence, nowadays, I listen to a mixture of those genres mentioned above from the multi-genre music collection on my laptop. I also have different styles of music that I listen to for different situations. For example, I play hip hop/rap, dance, house, or other music of fast beat and tempo when I’m getting ready to go out, whereas I listen to R&B, jazz or acoustic music when I want to relax or go to bed.
